It takes a child…

This afternoon I took a walk to the springs with a five-year-old. I was a bit ahead of him and made my way into the fairy circle. As he approached he said hey, how did you get in there? He looked around trying to find a way through the brush and briars to where I was standing. I told him it was a fairy circle and the best way to get in was to ask the fairies’ permission and they would guide him in. He tromped his way into the circle and declared “there is no such thing as fairies!” I told him to close his eyes and look at the pink and silver spots, that they were fairies. He closed his eyes and said “I don’t see anything.” He stood there for a minute and looked at me then walked out of the circle to my husband who told him “shhhhh listen.” The child took a moment, then a deep breath and very quietly, slowly, gently,  and deliberately made his way back to me, inside the circle, without a sound or a scratch.
